My research interests are very broad, with my external publications reflecting only an incomplete sampling of the fields I have spent time studying.
My first science job was analyzing solar wind data from various spacecraft, including Voyager 2, working under Karolen Paularena and Alan Lazarus. I did undergraduate thesis work with Eddie Farhi on quantum algorithms, but then switched to theoretical particle physics in graduate school, concentrating in the quantum mechanics of gravitation, working with Frank Wilczek. I maintained that research program for several years, but eventually switched my primary professional interests into education, the output of which I document elsewhere — although it overlaps with this list somewhat, especially in the student research projects which I have supervised. Most recently, I have been working in applying both my physics and education backgrounds to the field of complex systems — previously only a long-term scientific side interest — with a focus on computational and dynamical modelling approaches to biological, environmental, and epidemological problems.
I list below the research output of my students and myself, highlighting my name in boldface for clarity of attribution.
